“Every time we step onto our mats we practice out of a love for ourselves.
With the desire to know the truth of our own being and with a longing to benefit all beings, in all times and spaces. We practice simply because it is our nature to do so. There is no separation, it is just a way of life.”

This practice is built on the foundation of ritual asana with a focus on functional movement and individualized alignment.

By acknowledging that each body is unique, powerful, and purposeful, this practice provides room for students to better understand their own physicality.

We are multifaceted, and so is our practice.

Awakening grew out of a desire to meet people where they are while keeping the door open for limitless potential.

A note from Liz, about the practice.

The yoga practice is primarily physical in the way we practice it today and certainly in my life — and that’s why I love it so much!

We have so much to learn from our Earthly bodies —

The way they hold tension, move energy, tap into flow, build strength and stability, explore freedom, and expand and contract with our devoted attention to breath.

Awakening Yoga is rooted in asana accessibility, functional movement and mobility, meditation, pranayama, expression and endless discovery.

The Full Solar Practice is designed to be explored, molded and shared by all.

Our physical bodies are amazing containers and the way the asana (poses) show up for us on a daily basis is an empowering and honest baseline for personal health and wellbeing.

There is a purpose behind having a sequence that feels familiar to your body and your mind. There is ritual, power, stability, observation, comfort in doing a flow that you know you have accomplished before.

To learn how you physically move about the world (with tight hips or hamstrings, hyperextension, jaw/neck tension, etc) is information about the movement patterns and postural habits we have collected over our years.

This information is also an opportunity —

To re-balance the body, reconnect pathways that patterns may have dimmed, or reintegrate the body to move more mindfully and sustainably —
when you hike, drive, walk, carry groceries, complete chores, etc.

In addition to gaining more awareness of your physicality, I believe when we have a consistent yoga practice in our lives, we can tap into our most authentic, most raw, most self- loving emotional and energetic self.

We are on the mat to gather information — about the layers of our body — with limitless potential for growth and connection.

There is expansion and self-study when the same pose, sequence, pattern feel different.

There is a deeper awareness you tap into when you can be so present because intuitively you know what is coming next. Familiarity is safety and when we feel safe, we feel confident about pushing past comfort zones, which might look like trying a balancing pose, playing with a prop, or exploring a different path to the top of the mat.

This is a journey of being present and curious, on and off your mat.

What do we have control over and where do we not?
Where can we surrender and where should we contain?

This is all a powerful metaphor for the way we live, breathe and experience the everyday.

That’s the practice. It’s not about performing or perfectionism.

To me, it’s about embracing the journey with an open & curious mindset.

With an underlying intention that whatever you unearth on the mat, can help you live off the mat — with more compassion, awareness, and love for yourself and the world around you.

Amazing 90 minutes of yoga practice. Having done yoga for over a decade, I’m always looking for something different. This was an amazing assortment of poses that were both challenging AND fun. Highly recommend. Liz’s energy is dynamite — I feel fully welcomed to practice with her and she has a positive, uplifting spirit that is contagious.

I am so inspired by Liz and her practice of Awakening Yoga. This is my favorite class I’ve been to at PYC. I can’t wait to keep learning from her!

What to expect . . .

  • 90 minutes of movement.

All yogi levels are welcome! This class is ebb and flow vinyasa style with sun salutes, grounding postures, advanced asana, and foundational shapes. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced yogis will have a fun time. Modifications and opportunity for inversions and arm balances will be available. Ultimately - we take our time. We will practice breath work to begin and end. There will be a long rest to complete class.

  • Opportunity for self study.

Following the class, everyone will be sent a link to a recording of the Full Solar Sequence taught by Liz! You can practice the flow in the comfort of your own home, as often as you like. You will also receive a PDF outlining the entire class, with the energetic quality for each individual sequence. You can use the workbook to track the various sequences and notice how the postures feel in the body physically, mentally, and spiritually day to day.
